Hello sister saints!
I am back again to share a little edifying for your day!
His Word always has so much for us to meditate on in our days!
But his delight is in the law of the LORD; and in his law doth he meditate day and night.Psalm 1:2
I will meditate in thy precepts, and have respect unto thy ways.Psalm 119:15
I was reading in Acts 9 and it's an amazing account of how lives and situations can change! Paul went to the city to persecute the saints and then ended up being persecuted as a saint himself! With God nothing is impossible! He changes hearts and lives!
And Saul, yet breathing out threatenings and slaughter against the disciples of the Lord, went unto the high priest,
And desired of him letters to Damascus to the synagogues, that if he found any of this way, whether they were men or women, he might bring them bound unto Jerusalem.
-------
And after that many days were fulfilled, the Jews took counsel to kill him:
But their laying await was known of Saul. And they watched the gates day and night to kill him.
Then the disciples took him by night, and let him down by the wall in a basket.
Acts 9:1-2,23-25
Indeed all those who live godly in Christ Jesus shall suffer persecution.
I was also thinking about how it is wise to remember the Lord's severity too as well as His goodness.
Behold therefore the goodness and severity of God: on them which fell, severity; but toward thee, goodness, if thou continue in his goodness: otherwise thou also shalt be cut off.Romans 11:22
You cannot read far in the Word to not see this severity. Indeed right from the very first chapters of the Word and certainly to the very last book and all throughout in between. But He is just and righteous and sin is serious. Let us strive to continue in His goodness! Let us abide in Christ by keeping His Word to be saved from the severity.
I came across this scripture and it's a blessing to see Abigail's servant's heart here.
And when the servants of David were come to Abigail to Carmel, they spake unto her, saying, David sent us unto thee, to take thee to him to wife. And she arose, and bowed herself on her face to the earth, and said, Behold, let thine handmaid be a servant to wash the feet of the servants of my lord.1 Samuel 25:40-41
She wanted to just serve David's servants by washing their dirty feet, and that would be high enough for her let alone being his wife. And we know how she had done good to David and his men when her husband had done evil to them (which the Lord killed him for).
I was just looking up scriptures that mention washing feet to see what it means right through the Word and we see it was a common and necessary practice of serving back then which in our refined culture is not so necessary.
I love this scripture too about what a godly widow woman would look like and indeed she had been serving the saints in washing their dirty feet too and it is in the setting of daily life.
Well reported of for good works; if she have brought up children, if she have lodged strangers, if she have washed the saints' feet, if she have relieved the afflicted, if she have diligently followed every good work.1 Timothy 5:10
And I guess it doesn't even say if it was just to the women saints but to all and indeed Jesus did not reprove the woman who wiped His feet with hair and tears and kissed them. Indeed He kind of reproved the host for not even giving Him water to wash His feet with. But the woman did it in a way and got commended. There's just so much to ponder on in His Word! It opens our eyes to the truth as God sees it too! We want to call good good and evil evil and certainly not add or take away or make up things which void our worship of God! And it doesn't matter how we personally feel about things either. And we can only do what we each have in front of us in the life the Lord has given us.
And as a side note I sometimes think how it was the women who went to Jesus' tomb to anoint His dead body. It's just interesting getting a glimpse of what type of things godly women did back then. They worked hard and served a lot. So may we sisters take note to do the humble dirty jobs too and that especially to the saints if we have them in our lives. And indeed our Lord and Master showed us we should serve one another by serving us Himself!
For, brethren, ye have been called unto liberty; only use not liberty for an occasion to the flesh, but by love serve one another.Galatians 5:13
Look not every man on his own things, but every man also on the things of others.
Let this mind be in you, which was also in Christ Jesus:
Who, being in the form of God, thought it not robbery to be equal with God:
But made himself of no reputation, and took upon him the form of a servant, and was made in the likeness of men:
And being found in fashion as a man, he humbled himself, and became obedient unto death, even the death of the cross.
Philippians 2:4-8
We are blessed to have a wonderful example to follow in our Saviour in so many ways! Let us study Him and heed His Word and then obey! It may be easy to think and say but then we have to - do!
But be ye doers of the word, and not hearers only, deceiving your own selves.James 1:22
So press on my sisters in all the ways for godly women and all the ways that apply to all saints everywhere! May the Lord our Father help us as we need Him. Grace, mercy, peace, and love to you in His name.
