Today's Edification (12 January 2024)

Salutations to my sisters in the Lord!

Hope you're striving on wherever you are!

(nice picture from a sister:-)

We have a lesson from ants for sluggards...

Go to the ant, thou sluggard; consider her ways, and be wise:

Which having no guide, overseer, or ruler,

Provideth her meat in the summer, and gathereth her food in the harvest.

How long wilt thou sleep, O sluggard? when wilt thou arise out of thy sleep?

Yet a little sleep, a little slumber, a little folding of the hands to sleep:

So shall thy poverty come as one that travelleth, and thy want as an armed man.

Proverbs 6:6-11

And more here...

There be four things which are little upon the earth, but they are exceeding wise:

The ants are a people not strong, yet they prepare their meat in the summer;

The conies are but a feeble folk, yet make they their houses in the rocks;

The locusts have no king, yet go they forth all of them by bands;

The spider taketh hold with her hands, and is in kings' palaces.

Proverbs 30:24-28

I often think about how hardworking the animals can be (building their nests, feeding babies etc). And yet man...made higher in God's own image can be so rebellious against Him. Yes we all have rebelled against Him in our lives, in ignorance or willfully, but let us sisters born of Him strive to be perfect and fulfilling the roles the Lord has for us.

And whosoever shall compel thee to go a mile, go with him twain.

Matthew 5:41

Thinking about how we sisters can apply that verse to our everyday serving duties. We can do extra when asked to do something as long as it's something that is wanted to be done of course. We obey our 'masters' but that doesn't always mean we do exactly what they say and no more. We can look for things that need doing and get them done without being asked. Let us be His witnesses in all areas of our lives.

We don't try to moralize the people around us who are of the world if we dont like something they do. They all need the gospel with it's radical heart change rather than adjustments to some of their behaviors. And we just endure this world and remember we are no better than anyone and that the Lord sees all which is far more than we do. How much He has to endure!

The eyes of the LORD are in every place, beholding the evil and the good.

Proverbs 15:3

The Lord is not slack concerning his promise, as some men count slackness; but is longsuffering to us-ward, not willing that any should perish, but that all should come to repentance.

2 Peter 3:9

I was thinking about ditches too. We know there is a narrow road we are to strive on. We have been given many commandments and we need to keep testing and discerning and seeing how we are walking out His commandments in the right way.

Here's some scriptures on wisdom to edify you in the Word today. I hope they bless you and you want to keep growing in true wisdom!

To God only wise, be glory through Jesus Christ for ever. Amen.

Romans 16:27

(Thank you for the scripture pictures, sister.) Praise God for His Word of course!

Let's keep pressing on with cheerful endurance, sisters! Our great Saviour is worthy!

And they sung a new song, saying, Thou art worthy to take the book, and to open the seals thereof: for thou wast slain, and hast redeemed us to God by thy blood out of every kindred, and tongue, and people, and nation;

Wisdom from Proverbs

Greetings in love to my sisters in Christ!

How are you wherever you are on this earth?!

Today I'm sharing some verses from Proverbs for some wisdom which are treasures in such a foolish world as we live in. We know the Lord is the source of wisdom don't we! And He gave it to Solomon as we see here.

And God said to Solomon, Because this was in thine heart, and thou hast not asked riches, wealth, or honour, nor the life of thine enemies, neither yet hast asked long life; but hast asked wisdom and knowledge for thyself, that thou mayest judge my people, over whom I have made thee king: Wisdom and knowledge is granted unto thee; and I will give thee riches, and wealth, and honour, such as none of the kings have had that have been before thee, neither shall there any after thee have the like.

2 Chronicles 1:11-12

We too can ask Him for wisdom and we have told to be wise. We know the fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom. If we don't have that...well we are foolish. Reminds me of Christ telling of the wise man who built his house on the rock (by being a hearer and a doer of Christ's words) versus the other one who didn't.

There's some proverbs specifically for women as we know (particularly Proverbs 31 of course). But others too.

Every wise woman buildeth her house: but the foolish plucketh it down with her hands.

Proverbs 14:1

I love thinking about that and some of you sisters who are doing that...building and not tearing down.

Let this not be us...

It is better to dwell in the wilderness, than with a contentious and an angry woman.

Proverbs 21:19

We want to be neither...angry or contentious which would be arguing and answering back wanting to have the last word and such and saying things that aren't necessary.

As coals are to burning coals, and wood to fire; so is a contentious man to kindle strife.

Proverbs 26:21

We want to be peaceful women don't we not using grievous words but soft ones. That sounds like the meek and quiet spirit we are to have too.

A soft answer turneth away wrath: but grievous words stir up anger. The tongue of the wise useth knowledge aright: but the mouth of fools poureth out foolishness.

Proverbs 15:1-2

This is what we want to have and strive for...

She openeth her mouth with wisdom; and in her tongue is the law of kindness.

Proverbs 31:26

Moving on to some more verses to ponder on their wisdom. I chose some on women but the others are packed full of wisdom for us too of course!

A virtuous woman is a crown to her husband: but she that maketh ashamed is as rottenness in his bones.

Proverbs 12:4

Favour is deceitful, and beauty is vain: but a woman that feareth the Lord, she shall be praised.

Proverbs 31:30

Be not wise in thine own eyes: fear the Lord, and depart from evil.

Proverbs 3:7

The fear of the Lord is to hate evil: pride, and arrogancy, and the evil way, and the froward mouth, do I hate.

Proverbs 8:13

Better is little with the fear of the Lord than great treasure and trouble therewith. Better is a dinner of herbs where love is, than a stalled ox and hatred therewith.

Proverbs 15:16-17

So very much to ponder in all those! And that's just a tiny bit of all of God's wisdom of course and what is in the proverbs.

Let us be wise women...because we get it from the Lord starting with fearing Him. There is much in scripture about fools and being foolish and we don't want that to be us. Praise God for His ways and when we follow them, then we are wise. And it's God's wisdom and not man's and never anything to boast in whatsoever! And in fact we know man's wisdom is foolishness to God.

Who is a wise man and endued with knowledge among you? let him shew out of a good conversation his works with meekness of wisdom.

James 3:13

But the wisdom that is from above is first pure, then peaceable, gentle, and easy to be intreated, full of mercy and good fruits, without partiality, and without hypocrisy.

James 3:17

OK sisters...hope that edified you and that today is going well for you! Praise God for His truth and wisdom!

O the depth of the riches both of the wisdom and knowledge of God! how unsearchable are his judgments, and his ways past finding out!

Romans 11:33
