Today's Edification (17 July 2024)

Good day sisters!

It's always a blessing to serve and live for our Lord and Master!

Ye call me Master and Lord: and ye say well; for so I am.

If I then, your Lord and Master, have washed your feet; ye also ought to wash one another's feet.

For I have given you an example, that ye should do as I have done to you.

Verily, verily, I say unto you, The servant is not greater than his lord; neither he that is sent greater than he that sent him.

If ye know these things, happy are ye if ye do them.

John 13:13-17

Let us continue to serve Him and others. Yet in serving others we still are serving Him as He told us to serve and gave us an example and said it is the greatest. We are to do all things as unto Him!

May we strive to be found good and faithful servants! Such servants don't just believe in their master do they? They don't just admire how loving he may be or how merciful he has been. No they try to please their master and do a good job and stick to everything he said and how he wants things to be done! Just as an earthly master may have a goodness and severity we know God does too and there must be fear for the consequences of disobedience just like there would be consequences if someone had a job and did things their own way and not the boss' way.

For the Son of man is as a man taking a far journey, who left his house, and gave authority to his servants, and to every man his work, and commanded the porter to watch.
Mark 13:34

That's good to keep in mind and ponder how it truly is like that, how our Master is absent and we are working for Him but He will come and we will give account of our serving work...whether we did it well or were slothful lazy servants. We sure do want to be worthy to hear "Well done good and faithful servant!" having obeyed His commands faithfully.

After a long time the lord of those servants cometh, and reckoneth with them.

And so he that had received five talents came and brought other five talents, saying, Lord, thou deliveredst unto me five talents: behold, I have gained beside them five talents more.

His lord said unto him, Well done, thou good and faithful servant: thou hast been faithful over a few things, I will make thee ruler over many things: enter thou into the joy of thy lord.

Matthew 25:19-21

May we please our Lord and Master and do that which is our duty and reasonable service, pleasing our Father in heaven! He sees His own and all others do to them as well as every deed and thought and motive of man and He will judge.

I was pondering how doing good works in one area cannot cover up or somehow 'atone' for bad works and sins in other areas. It may make people feel good or better but sins done must be addressed and no good we do can ever atone for them. We know we must repent and confess and be cleansed by Christ's blood to be reconciled back to God.

Doing many good and wonderful works without love is in vain too.

Though I speak with the tongues of men and of angels, and have not charity, I am become as sounding brass, or a tinkling cymbal.

And though I have the gift of prophecy, and understand all mysteries, and all knowledge; and though I have all faith, so that I could remove mountains, and have not charity, I am nothing.

And though I bestow all my goods to feed the poor, and though I give my body to be burned, and have not charity, it profiteth me nothing.

1 Corinthians 13:1-3

And Jesus said there will be many on that great day turned away even though they had done many wonderful works.

Many will say to me in that day, Lord, Lord, have we not prophesied in thy name? and in thy name have cast out devils? and in thy name done many wonderful works? And then will I profess unto them, I never knew you: depart from me, ye that work iniquity.
Matthew 7:22-23

May we examine our hearts and see if there are any 'motes or beams' we need to address in them. And we should be aware too and not be deceived if people may seem to have many wonderful works yet live in sin in other areas, not repenting when shown.

I share some scriptures on fearing God. We know it is a sorely lacking state of heart today especially with the common lie that God/Jesus loves everyone no matter what. I hope we have this fear sisters. It is wisdom if we do. I just hope we aren't deceived that it's somehow Old Testament or something. These scriptures are all in the new and there's more. No we shouldn't fear other things but cast our burdens and cares on Him, being anxious for nothing, but it is so clear we are to fear God.

Wherefore, my beloved, as ye have always obeyed, not as in my presence only, but now much more in my absence, work out your own salvation with fear and trembling.
Philippians 2:12

And if ye call on the Father, who without respect of persons judgeth according to every man's work, pass the time of your sojourning here in fear:
1 Peter 1:17

But in every nation he that feareth him, and worketh righteousness, is accepted with him.
Acts 10:35

And fear not them which kill the body, but are not able to kill the soul: but rather fear him which is able to destroy both soul and body in hell.
Matthew 10:28

And his mercy is on them that fear him from generation to generation.
Luke 1:50

And Ananias hearing these words fell down, and gave up the ghost: and great fear came on all them that heard these things...Then fell she down straightway at his feet, and yielded up the ghost: and the young men came in, and found her dead, and, carrying her forth, buried her by her husband. And great fear came upon all the church, and upon as many as heard these things.
Acts 5:5, 10-11

Then had the churches rest throughout all Judaea and Galilee and Samaria, and were edified; and walking in the fear of the Lord, and in the comfort of the Holy Ghost, were multiplied.
Acts 9:31

Well; because of unbelief they were broken off, and thou standest by faith. Be not highminded, but fear:
Romans 11:20

Having therefore these promises, dearly beloved, let us cleanse ourselves from all filthiness of the flesh and spirit, perfecting holiness in the fear of God.
2 Corinthians 7:1

Let us therefore fear, lest, a promise being left us of entering into his rest, any of you should seem to come short of it.
Hebrews 4:1

For if we sin wilfully after that we have received the knowledge of the truth, there remaineth no more sacrifice for sins, But a certain fearful looking for of judgment and fiery indignation, which shall devour the adversaries.
Hebrews 10:26-27

I hope those encourage us to flee all sin and do that which is acceptable to Him. Then we can have peace with Him and rest in the hope of His salvation. We must keep walking in our covenant with Him, not draw back or be unfaithful. We know it is a fight of faith, a race, a narrow road not an easy guaranteed locked up place if we just have a head knowledge of Jesus like so many sadly believe is sufficient.

We don't want to do this...

He that covereth his sins shall not prosper: but whoso confesseth and forsaketh them shall have mercy.
Proverbs 28:13

But we get mercy when we forsake them!

The call always is to turn. Turn from our sins and live. Turn to God. Repent.

Therefore also now, saith the LORD, turn ye even to me with all your heart, and with fasting, and with weeping, and with mourning: And rend your heart, and not your garments, and turn unto the LORD your God: for he is gracious and merciful, slow to anger, and of great kindness, and repenteth him of the evil.
Joel 2:12-13

Say unto them, As I live, saith the Lord GOD, I have no pleasure in the death of the wicked; but that the wicked turn from his way and live: turn ye, turn ye from your evil ways; for why will ye die, O house of Israel?
Ezekiel 33:11

Therefore say thou unto them, Thus saith the LORD of hosts; Turn ye unto me, saith the LORD of hosts, and I will turn unto you, saith the LORD of hosts.
Zechariah 1:3

That last scripture reminds me of this one...

Draw nigh to God, and he will draw nigh to you. Cleanse your hands, ye sinners; and purify your hearts, ye double minded.
James 4:8

He doesn't force anyway to come to Him but we see He isn't close to those who are sinners. We must turn to Him, forsaking our sins for Him to draw near to us.

We have a good heavenly Father. May we be His obedient children.

Now unto God and our Father be glory for ever and ever. Amen.
Philippians 4:20
Giving thanks unto the Father, which hath made us meet to be partakers of the inheritance of the saints in light:
Colossians 1:12

Be ye therefore followers of God, as dear children;
Ephesians 5:1
Having predestinated us unto the adoption of children by Jesus Christ to himself, according to the good pleasure of his will,
Ephesians 1:5
And again, I will put my trust in him. And again, Behold I and the children which God hath given me.
Hebrews 2:13

As obedient children, not fashioning yourselves according to the former lusts in your ignorance:
1 Peter 1:14

Keep walking in the fear of the Lord sisters. Some more encouragement from the Psalms on that and about His goodness here...

Behold, the eye of the LORD is upon them that fear him, upon them that hope in his mercy;
Psalm 33:18

O fear the LORD, ye his saints: for there is no want to them that fear him.
Psalm 34:9

Teach me thy way, O LORD; I will walk in thy truth: unite my heart to fear thy name.
Psalm 86:11

Like as a father pitieth his children, so the LORD pitieth them that fear him.
Psalm 103:13

Praise ye the LORD. Blessed is the man that feareth the LORD, that delighteth greatly in his commandments.
Psalm 112:1

The LORD taketh pleasure in them that fear him, in those that hope in his mercy.
Psalm 147:11

Those are some awesome promises and comforts for those who fear Him! Let us do so!

Remember sisters...God's grace is sufficient for us! Let us press on in all the many gifts and blessings we have in Him! And we can take pleasure in infirmities, necessities, reproaches, persecutions, and distresses for Christ's sake! When we are weak...He is strong! Be renewed in the spirit day by day sisters! Mount up with wings as eagles!

The LORD will give strength unto his people; the LORD will bless his people with peace.
Psalm 29:11

Love, grace, and mercy in Christ,
