Greetings sisters!
Grace and peace be multiplied unto you through the knowledge of God, and of Jesus our Lord,
According as his divine power hath given unto us all things that pertain unto life and godliness, through the knowledge of him that hath called us to glory and virtue:
Whereby are given unto us exceeding great and precious promises: that by these ye might be partakers of the divine nature, having escaped the corruption that is in the world through lust.
And beside this, giving all diligence, add to your faith virtue; and to virtue knowledge;
And to knowledge temperance; and to temperance patience; and to patience godliness;
And to godliness brotherly kindness; and to brotherly kindness charity.
For if these things be in you, and abound, they make you that ye shall neither be barren nor unfruitful in the knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ.
But he that lacketh these things is blind, and cannot see afar off, and hath forgotten that he was purged from his old sins.
Wherefore the rather, brethren, give diligence to make your calling and election sure: for if ye do these things, ye shall never fall:
2 Peter 1:2-10
There's a lot in that scripture to dig through and meditate on. It speaks of diligence and how when we put on those godly qualities we will not be unfruitful. And it speaks of great and precious promises! And indeed He has given us all things that pertain to life and godliness. He has done all things He can for us! In fact I just heard this scripture and it's a good one showing all He has done for Israel and how they still didn't bring forth good fruit.
Now will I sing to my wellbeloved a song of my beloved touching his vineyard. My wellbeloved hath a vineyard in a very fruitful hill:
And he fenced it, and gathered out the stones thereof, and planted it with the choicest vine, and built a tower in the midst of it, and also made a winepress therein: and he looked that it should bring forth grapes, and it brought forth wild grapes.
And now, O inhabitants of Jerusalem, and men of Judah, judge, I pray you, betwixt me and my vineyard.
What could have been done more to my vineyard, that I have not done in it? wherefore, when I looked that it should bring forth grapes, brought it forth wild grapes?
And now go to; I will tell you what I will do to my vineyard: I will take away the hedge thereof, and it shall be eaten up; and break down the wall thereof, and it shall be trodden down:
And I will lay it waste: it shall not be pruned, nor digged; but there shall come up briers and thorns: I will also command the clouds that they rain no rain upon it.
For the vineyard of the LORD of hosts is the house of Israel, and the men of Judah his pleasant plant: and he looked for judgment, but behold oppression; for righteousness, but behold a cry.
Isaiah 5:1-7
May we bring forth fruit unto Him in His grace and mercy.
Wherefore, my brethren, ye also are become dead to the law by the body of Christ; that ye should be married to another, even to him who is raised from the dead, that we should bring forth fruit unto God.Romans 7:4
But that on the good ground are they, which in an honest and good heart, having heard the word, keep it, and bring forth fruit with patience.Luke 8:15
I was pondering this lately about what actually motivates each of us to get out of bed in the morning and do a day all over again? It's a good question. For some it may be hungry children to feed, for others a job to get to on time, for others working before the heat of the day, or needing to find some food, or just a lot of things that need immediate attention. But if there were none of those urgent things, what encourages us to get out of a cozy bed and start the day? It's good to ponder and I would say thinking about the Lord and His goodness is and should be a very large reason for all us! And of course no matter what duties we have, remembering His commands and what pleases Him is also why too. So I guess there's a lot that actually guides how we do things and why and when etc!
A sister sent me some encouragement this morning about how worthy the Lord is and indeed that should get us motivated to press on with more zeal for Him in the good works He has for us don't you agree sisters? He is so worthy to keep doing all we have over and over again serving Him and others and pressing on for the kingdom not growing weary. We have time to redeem as well and if you're blessed with a lot of different good works to do there's always those to work on!
And think of all the blessings we sisters have in the Lord too! We not only have food and raiment which are very important necessary blessings but so much more especially spiritual blessings in Christ! How can we not be thankful!
In every thing give thanks: for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus concerning you.1 Thessalonians 5:18
Indeed life is a gift and so are health and strength. We want to be faithful with them and yet know anything we have may be taken away at any time and we still want to be faithful to Him as it can't be all the blessings that keep us close to Him but God Himself.
Then Job arose, and rent his mantle, and shaved his head, and fell down upon the ground, and worshipped,
And said, Naked came I out of my mother's womb, and naked shall I return thither: the LORD gave, and the LORD hath taken away; blessed be the name of the LORD.
In all this Job sinned not, nor charged God foolishly.
Job 1:20-22
Whom have I in heaven but thee? and there is none upon earth that I desire beside thee. My flesh and my heart faileth: but God is the strength of my heart, and my portion for ever.
Psalm 73:25-26
I was pondering too how sin has consequences...big and often horrendous ones. It did for Eve. It did for the people in the Flood. It did for the children of Israel in the wilderness. It did for David. It did for Ananias and Sapphira. The wages of sin is ultimately death. But there are other consequences as well. And we know repentance can change that though so there is hope! We know being washed in Christ's blood does forgive sins. This is a most precious gift and indeed Jesus is the only way of escaping the wages of sin. There may still be physical consequences no doubt but God is so merciful to offer cleansing in our Saviour!
That by two immutable things, in which it was impossible for God to lie, we might have a strong consolation, who have fled for refuge to lay hold upon the hope set before us: Which hope we have as an anchor of the soul, both sure and stedfast, and which entereth into that within the veil;Hebrews 6:18-19
Therefore we have so much hope sisters! But we never want to tempt our Lord nor sin against Him. We want to please Him and strive to walk worthy of Him as He is so worthy! So may we press on sisters, hoping in His grace and mercy and doing that which is well pleasing in His sight.
Finally, brethren, farewell. Be perfect, be of good comfort, be of one mind, live in peace; and the God of love and peace shall be with you. Greet one another with an holy kiss. All the saints salute you. The grace of the Lord Jesus Christ, and the love of God, and the communion of the Holy Ghost, be with you all. Amen.2 Corinthians 13:11-14
