Today's Edification (11 January 2024)

Greetings sisters!

Hopefully you're striving on with joy and thankfulness and not growing weary in well doing!

I had fainted, unless I had believed to see the goodness of the LORD in the land of the living. Wait on the LORD: be of good courage, and he shall strengthen thine heart: wait, I say, on the LORD.

Psalm 27:13-14

We learn through this life to not rush things but wait on the Lord's timing and seek His will and not our own. We don't want to be anxious for anything but rest and trust in Him and not have a lack of faith by trying to think we know what's best.

We need just to look at all we do have and see God's grace and blessings in our lives if we ever start thinking that we have anything hard! Let us focus on Him and remember we are His servants and no longer our own! But let us long to be more perfect and longing for the Lord and our home above and all good things in Him.

For I am in a strait betwixt two, having a desire to depart, and to be with Christ; which is far better:

Philippians 1:23

Behold, I have longed after thy precepts: quicken me in thy righteousness.

Psalm 119:40

But now they desire a better country, that is, an heavenly: wherefore God is not ashamed to be called their God: for he hath prepared for them a city.

Hebrews 11:16

O God, thou art my God; early will I seek thee: my soul thirsteth for thee, my flesh longeth for thee in a dry and thirsty land, where no water is;

Psalm 63:1

For God is my record, how greatly I long after you all in the bowels of Jesus Christ.

Philippians 1:8

I have longed for thy salvation, O LORD; and thy law is my delight.

Psalm 119:174

For this cause we also, since the day we heard it, do not cease to pray for you, and to desire that ye might be filled with the knowledge of his will in all wisdom and spiritual understanding;

Colossians 1:9

Many good things to desire and long for amen sisters!

I had an extra busy day in my serving works. Had to drive the children to a town an hour away. So that's always quite a full on thing but I was able to give out one gospel card at least in the midst of my other duties. We all have different good works the Lord has for us and we need to be joyful in them all! That picture was at a pretty and peaceful spot in His creation for a lunch break.

Materialism is such a bondage and burden. For example, someone has a birthday (pagan not for saints btw) and then there's pagan holidays like Christmas and everyone's got to give and receive gifts. And if someone doesn't it's thought strange, and then everyone has to get one and not get left out. While the motive of giving is a good one we know it is often unnecessary and sinful things that are given and not good for anyone in the end. It makes people want more and more and encourages greed and covetousness, and not contentment and thankfulness. Praise God for showing us the truth and we hope others will also see and be set free in Christ.

But we sure can give words of edification and encouragement and hope in Christ in sharing His Word and gospel and ready to meet physical needs of others. There are many good things we can and should give!

But this I say, He which soweth sparingly shall reap also sparingly; and he which soweth bountifully shall reap also bountifully. Every man according as he purposeth in his heart, so let him give; not grudgingly, or of necessity: for God loveth a cheerful giver.

2 Corinthians 9:6-7

I sometimes think of the simple meals they had in Bible times and like specifically the one Jesus cooked for His disciples here.

As soon then as they were come to land, they saw a fire of coals there, and fish laid thereon, and bread.

Jesus saith unto them, Bring of the fish which ye have now caught.

Simon Peter went up, and drew the net to land full of great fishes, an hundred and fifty and three: and for all there were so many, yet was not the net broken.

Jesus saith unto them, Come and dine. And none of the disciples durst ask him, Who art thou? knowing that it was the Lord.

Jesus then cometh, and taketh bread, and giveth them, and fish likewise.

This is now the third time that Jesus shewed himself to his disciples, after that he was risen from the dead.

John 21:9-14

And then the few times He took fish and bread and multiplied them to feed the multitudes. Simple lives and food...which many cultures are far from today. Let us sisters be ready to be content with less and yet serve what is given us to use to cook with etc. The Lord is the provider of it all and let us be thankful for whatever blessings He gives but still crucifying our flesh to not overindulge.

Two things have I required of thee; deny me them not before I die:

Remove far from me vanity and lies: give me neither poverty nor riches; feed me with food convenient for me:

Lest I be full, and deny thee, and say, Who is the LORD? or lest I be poor, and steal, and take the name of my God in vain.

Proverbs 30:7-9

Strive on as good soldiers of the Lord!

Love in Christ,
