Today's Edification (20 December 2024)

Greetings again sister saints!

The sun came up one more time and it will go down again just as it has since the beginning. Many thousands of times it has done this and perhaps millions even and so it just encourages us sisters I think to keep going at all our regular duties! We know His creations doing what He set them to do pleases Him and so too if we simply do what He created us to do faithfully also is pleasing to Him. Let us not grow weary in well doing! The good reward is ahead in it's due time if we faint not! I hope you're all pressing on faithful and consistent as well! I think it's a danger when we want to do something other than what God created us to do over and over and over again. You see how much of a mess the world is in when they weren't content with simply living life as God ordained. And although the world may be thriving in their wickedness today...judgement is coming and God's wrath abides over them already. Not a place you want to be in.

I have seen the wicked in great power, and spreading himself like a green bay tree.

Yet he passed away, and, lo, he was not: yea, I sought him, but he could not be found.

Mark the perfect man, and behold the upright: for the end of that man is peace.

But the transgressors shall be destroyed together: the end of the wicked shall be cut off.

But the salvation of the righteous is of the LORD: he is their strength in the time of trouble.

And the LORD shall help them, and deliver them: he shall deliver them from the wicked, and save them, because they trust in him.

Psalm 37:35-40

For I was envious at the foolish, when I saw the prosperity of the wicked.

For there are no bands in their death: but their strength is firm.

They are not in trouble as other men; neither are they plagued like other men.

Therefore pride compasseth them about as a chain; violence covereth them as a garment.

Their eyes stand out with fatness: they have more than heart could wish.

They are corrupt, and speak wickedly concerning oppression: they speak loftily.

They set their mouth against the heavens, and their tongue walketh through the earth.

Therefore his people return hither: and waters of a full cup are wrung out to them.

And they say, How doth God know? and is there knowledge in the most High?

Behold, these are the ungodly, who prosper in the world; they increase in riches.

Verily I have cleansed my heart in vain, and washed my hands in innocency.

For all the day long have I been plagued, and chastened every morning.

If I say, I will speak thus; behold, I should offend against the generation of thy children.

When I thought to know this, it was too painful for me;

Until I went into the sanctuary of God; then understood I their end.

Surely thou didst set them in slippery places: thou castedst them down into destruction.

How are they brought into desolation, as in a moment! they are utterly consumed with terrors.

As a dream when one awaketh; so, O Lord, when thou awakest, thou shalt despise their image.

Psalm 73:3-20

Fret not thyself because of evildoers, neither be thou envious against the workers of iniquity.
For they shall soon be cut down like the grass, and wither as the green herb.
Psalm 37:1-2

Because sentence against an evil work is not executed speedily, therefore the heart of the sons of men is fully set in them to do evil.

Though a sinner do evil an hundred times, and his days be prolonged, yet surely I know that it shall be well with them that fear God, which fear before him:

But it shall not be well with the wicked, neither shall he prolong his days, which are as a shadow; because he feareth not before God.

Ecclesiastes 8:11-13

His Word always has the answers!

Makes you so thankful to know the truth that makes you free though too!

While they promise them liberty, they themselves are the servants of corruption: for of whom a man is overcome, of the same is he brought in bondage.
2 Peter 2:19

For when ye were the servants of sin, ye were free from righteousness.

What fruit had ye then in those things whereof ye are now ashamed? for the end of those things is death.

But now being made free from sin, and become servants to God, ye have your fruit unto holiness, and the end everlasting life.

Romans 6:20-22

For sin shall not have dominion over you: for ye are not under the law, but under grace.
Romans 6:14

Yes we just want to be the Lord's servants and not in bondage to sin and the flesh and man's traditions!

Just saw this and His Word is clear on how things are now that Christ has come!

But before faith came, we were kept under the law, shut up unto the faith which should afterwards be revealed.

Wherefore the law was our schoolmaster to bring us unto Christ, that we might be justified by faith.

But after that faith is come, we are no longer under a schoolmaster.

Galatians 3:23-25

Indeed now it is all about Christ and indeed obeying Him and His teachings. He surely taught differently to the old law.

Ye have heard that it hath been said, An eye for an eye, and a tooth for a tooth:

But I say unto you, That ye resist not evil: but whosoever shall smite thee on thy right cheek, turn to him the other also.

Matthew 5:38-39

This is always such a conditional strong statement when you come across it...

For if ye forgive men their trespasses, your heavenly Father will also forgive you: But if ye forgive not men their trespasses, neither will your Father forgive your trespasses.
Matthew 6:14-15

We know those who hate others abide in death too and are even called murderers.

Whosoever hateth his brother is a murderer: and ye know that no murderer hath eternal life abiding in him.
1 John 3:15

A consistent message we see!

But let your communication be, Yea, yea; Nay, nay: for whatsoever is more than these cometh of evil.
Matthew 5:37

I was pondering that scripture too and it's a good one for us to consider of course. I know it is in the context of swearing oaths which are forbidden in the new covenant but it's just so plain and simple how we are to be...yes or no! Just speak the truth but it also reminded me of being careful with our words and of this scripture too...

Wherefore, my beloved brethren, let every man be swift to hear, slow to speak, slow to wrath:
James 1:19

I'm sure we all have regretted saying (or writing) things. I have on occasions despite being one of fewer words already. It just makes you want to be very careful with what you say and especially when confronted with situations that may take us off guard. I really would hope the Lord reminds me of the scriptures and example of our Saviour if needed. It is valuable to be able to bridle the tongue, essential in fact, so let us walk carefully and with wisdom in all situations and the Lord no doubt teaches us through what we do experience over time!

If any man among you seem to be religious, and bridleth not his tongue, but deceiveth his own heart, this man's religion is vain.
James 1:26

I like the biblical term of 'holding your peace'! Or not.

But he, beckoning unto them with the hand to hold their peace, declared unto them how the Lord had brought him out of the prison. And he said, Go shew these things unto James, and to the brethren. And he departed, and went into another place.
Acts 12:17

And many charged him that he should hold his peace: but he cried the more a great deal, Thou Son of David, have mercy on me.
Mark 10:48

O that ye would altogether hold your peace! and it should be your wisdom.
Job 13:5

If any thing be revealed to another that sitteth by, let the first hold his peace.
1 Corinthians 14:30

But they held their peace, and answered him not a word: for the king's commandment was, saying, Answer him not.
Isaiah 36:21

But Jesus held his peace. And the high priest answered and said unto him, I adjure thee by the living God, that thou tell us whether thou be the Christ, the Son of God.
Matthew 26:63

Even a fool, when he holdeth his peace, is counted wise: and he that shutteth his lips is esteemed a man of understanding.
Proverbs 17:28

And after they had held their peace, James answered, saying, Men and brethren, hearken unto me.
Acts 15:13

He that is void of wisdom despiseth his neighbour: but a man of understanding holdeth his peace.
Proverbs 11:12

When they heard these things, they held their peace, and glorified God, saying, Then hath God also to the Gentiles granted repentance unto life.
Acts 11:18

And obviously there is a time to speak...

Then spake the Lord to Paul in the night by a vision, Be not afraid, but speak, and hold not thy peace:
Acts 18:9

And that can be a lot too in good pure and true things! The hope we have in Christ and His gospel is one good thing to speak...

But sanctify the Lord God in your hearts: and be ready always to give an answer to every man that asketh you a reason of the hope that is in you with meekness and fear:
 1 Peter 3:15

And also edifying, encouraging, and loving sisters is good too!

We just must have control over ourselves...in all areas.

He that is slow to anger is better than the mighty; and he that ruleth his spirit than he that taketh a city.
Proverbs 16:32

Could also lead into the fact that women are to be silent in the body gatherings and also to have meek and quiet spirits. So there is a lot to meditate on for us as women and how we should be which will be different in different situations.

Words do matter and indeed are part of our works and we know we will be judged by our actions.

But I say unto you, That every idle word that men shall speak, they shall give account thereof in the day of judgment. For by thy words thou shalt be justified, and by thy words thou shalt be condemned.
Matthew 12:36-37

May we be wise and slow to speak and pondering things in our hearts and peaceful and like the Proverbs 31 woman here...

She openeth her mouth with wisdom; and in her tongue is the law of kindness.
Proverbs 31:26

And indeed...

Let no corrupt communication proceed out of your mouth, but that which is good to the use of edifying, that it may minister grace unto the hearers.
Ephesians 4:29

There's just so very much about the whole subject of words and the tongue in the scriptures we could spend a long time studying it all!

Doth a fountain send forth at the same place sweet water and bitter?
James 3:11

Yes may our mouths be that of sweet water and not bitter! I could go on and on but just sharing some of my ponderings right now! Hope it's edifying too! We want to please Him, walking in His good ways!

Love to my godly obedient sisters who love the Lord! Keep pressing on one day at a time and doing the same good things over and over again for His glory! Hold fast!
